— About Us —
The Ryerson SAE Supermileage team strives to combine the theoretical & technical concepts taught in classroom environments with hands on experience to provide a unique learning experience at Ryerson University. Although we are an engineering design team, they’re are open to all Ryerson students of all disciplines and academic backgrounds.
We have a yearly design and build cycle that results in a highly fuel efficient, single passenger vehicle. Our vehicle is tested at the annual SAE Supermileage competition in Marshall, Michigan. We compete against vehicles from all over the world on a specified course. Vehicles are graded based on fuel economy (miles per gallon) and overall design. In 2018 we achieved 6th place internationally (2nd place in all of Canada) with a fuel economy of 616 miles per gallon ( 0.384338 liters per 100 km).
In 2015 we achieved a calculated fuel economy of 192 miles per gallon. In 2014 Ryerson Supermileage won the award for best team spirit. Each year our team strives to place competitively, while increasing awareness for fuel economy in automotive design
All of our composite fabrication, mechanical & electrical design and fabrication, and engine modifications and tuning are all done by highly motivated students.
